NEW HABITS, NEW YOU

NEW HABITS, NEW YOU

I am pretty sure you must have heard people say that it takes 21 days to build a new habit; well recent research proves that it takes at least 66 days to develop a new habit. However, this doesn’t mean you will stop trying, 66 days may seem long but after a point of time it gets easier and you don’t get anything so easily, you have to work hard for everything. Os if you wish to develop some good habits, you will have to put in your determination. Seeing the current situation, everyone is stressed which has started affecting the physical and mental health of people, and the need for adopting a good habit for the wellness of your body is higher than ever.

Life is not easy, and it is just going to get tough as you grow older so following some good habits can really help you cope up with the stress, uncertainty, and other obstacles. The only mantra that you should follow is “Where there is a will, there is a way”, you don’t need any special skills or experience to develop good habits, all you need is the determination to do better for the sake of your wellness.

Adopting a new habit is a process that takes time it is not something which can happen overnight. For example, if you want to lose weight, then you won’t start hitting the gym for hours right away. You first set some small goals to achieve, research to find out the best workout for your body, make a diet, make a workout routine and then start slow and aim to stick to the routine. Gradually, you can increase the intensity and number of days you workout, and before you know it, it will become a part of your daily routine.

Here are some habits that you should adopt soon to change your life for the better:

TAKE A BREAK FROM SOCIAL MEDIA

Social media has to be one of the greatest discoveries, but as much as you love watching what your friends are up to, it can affect your mental health. According to research, a person on average spends over 2 hours on social media per day; imagine what you could achieve in those 2 hours! It’s not just the time being wasted; there is a lot of hate coming on social media nowadays. Instead of lifting each other up, people try to bring you down because honestly, no one likes it when someone else is more successful. Everyone is aware of the hate comments, well most of the time you ignore it but sometimes they can really affect your energy and make it negative. Another impact is seeing the life of other people makes you feel what you have is not enough and that is very bad for your mental peace. Obviously, it’s not possible to cut off social media altogether; however, a day’s break from it can prove to be really helpful. It will give you extra time to do your work and cam your mind.

START READING

Where are the days when you would take money from your parents to buy books from the school fair? Technology has taken over the world and the amazing habit of reading has taken a backseat, well it’s time to bring it back. Here is an idea, what if you spend the last 30 minutes before you go to sleep, reading a book instead of scrolling through Instagram endlessly? It will not only increase your knowledge, but it will also help your language and help you sleep better. It might seem difficult reading a book if you are not in the habit of reading regularly, but start slow, take up one page at a time. Keep your phone away for those 30 minutes and you will notice changes after some days.

MAINTAIN A JOURNAL

There is a lot that goes on your mind and you cannot share everything with your partner, friends, or even your family so why not write all of that down. It is a great way of letting those feelings out, you will feel so light after doing it. Anytime you are upset or angry, instead of doing something which you might regret later on, write it down. It will help you gain a better perspective and save your relations. Many people are just not comfortable opening up about the things that are bothering them, so instead of bottling all those feelings (which will hamper their mental peace), it is better to write them down.

LISTEN TO NEW MUSIC

I am pretty sure everyone has that one Spotify playlist which they play on repeat, how about you mix it up and listen to some new songs. There is nothing wrong in liking some songs and listening to them again and again, but listening to new music trains your brain to accept changes and it expands your horizon, you might even discover a new genre of music which you like. You can start slow, maybe listen to one new song per week, gradually you will see your brain will accept new songs much faster.

WALK FOR ATLEAST 30 MINUTES

After a long hard day of work, all you feel like is have some good food and lay on the couch, how about instead of laying on the couch, you take a 30-minute walk outside? I know it doesn’t sound quite tempting after a day of work, but believe me, you will feel much better after taking a walk. Walking in the fresh air will help you clear out your mind and it is good for your health too. Morning walks have the added advantage of getting some sun exposure (don’t forget your sunscreen though), they can prove to be very refreshing. It will give you time to think and deal with your feelings too.

MEDITATE

This is a habit you should start right away; meditating for 10 minutes in a day can bring vast changes in your wellness. You will feel calmer and more refreshed; it is that time of the day when you don’t think anything, just focus on your body and mind. It helps you stay calm even in the tensest situation; the list of benefits of meditation is very long and that is more than enough motivation to start meditation right away.
